Cantù Rosaline Lace

Historical description

Cantù Rosaline Laceschool "Fili e Colori" of Olgiate Comasco
"Rosaline" work was born at the end of the 1800's in Belgium where it became widespread. It is a stitch which drew inspiration from the 18th century Venetian needle lace - Venise a' la rose. Cantù acquired this work and already by the beginning of the 1900's it had a remarkable production. The lacemakers of Cantù are the sole depository of the technical secrets for its execution.

Technical description

The lace is carried out with a very fine thread and characteristic are the relief, small flowers, little leaves, multiple leaves, fine scrolls and the simple background. The result is a light and beautiful lace. The technique is not very difficult, but consists of many fundamental steps which combine to give the lace its unmistakable character.
