Workshop Filet netting
Of simple origins, typical of lake and coastal regions; born with
the ancient art of making fishing nets. The wives of the
fishermen, skilled in the repair of nets, perfected and refined
the technique and, using threads of increasing fineness and with
the help of an instrument, the "modano" (netting
needle) created a net used to support the embroidery. After
having anchored the thread to a fixed point the net is made using
a series of knots with the help of the "modano"
and a knitting needle which determines the size of the mesh. The
network is then placed in a frame and is embroidered with a
thicker thread following a plan on squared paper.
